Whatever the weather I like to sleep with our bedroom window slightly open. There are two reasons for this - one so that when I pop my nose out from under the cozy covers I can smell the fresh air and two because I like to hear the morning sounds!
I'm not very good at getting up in the morning but I do wake up easy. Once awake, I like to lay there and listen to the various sounds that to me, mean morning is coming alive!
I listen to the distant hum of the motorway and wonder why it's ever so busy at 6am in the morning!?! I pretend the sound is coming from the sea washing up on the rocks!
I listen to Mr Cockerel singing to the world and announcing this new day.
Then there's the birds. We live near the meadows and there are all types of birds that fly busily around chirping merrily along the way. As the morning goes on there are more tunes flying through the air and when I hear the Magpie that's when it's time to get up. He seems to be the later one.
Sometimes, the neighbours dog runs round the garden barking merrily and the owner comes running out "Shhhhhh, it's too early to bark"!! LoL!!
All this tells me that I am blessed with ears to hear with, it's the dawn of a new day and that
This is the day that the Lord has made
and I will rejoice.
Have a truly bless day everyone!

I like your post on early morning smells and sounds. I have to admit I chuckled a little after reading that you sleep with your window open. Here in Lancaster County the farmers put liquid fertilizer on their fields and there are some morning that we almost gag! LOL! We make sure everything is closed to the outside. Fortunately, that isn't every morning. We live near a Kellogg's plant so some delightful smells come from there. They make cereals. On the days they make the honey coated cereals is when we have the best air.
I do that too! But I watch my birds, buzzards wheeling over the trees, a hawk circling, magpies chattering....lovely morning sounds!
