Friend of God

Do you ever consider yourself to be a friend of God?

Abraham was a friend of God.

Certain words in our Bible give the Greek or Hebrew translation which gives a deeper meaning and understanding to scripture - for example:

Proverbs 17 v 17 translates the word friend as ' re'a', which means friend, companion, neighbour, familiar person. This is a noun and suggests a healthy friendship and a friend that loves at all times.

In John 11 v 11 the word friend is 'philos' denoting a loved one, beloved, affectionate friend. The verb is 'phileo' which describes a love of emotion.

John 15 v 14, 15 Jesus says "You are My friends if you do whatever I command you. No longer do I call you servants, for a servant does not know what his master is doing, but I have called you friends, for all things that I heard from My Father I have made known to you." In this text, the word friend is from 'philos'. Jesus is telling us that we are His loved one's and He is our affectionate Friend. What a privilege to be a friend of the King of Kings. But do you know what? !? The best thing is this:

In John 15 v 16 Jesus says "You did not choose Me, but I chose you...........".

So as born-again believers we can rest in the knowledge that we are a chosen person. A chosen friend of Jesus. What a wonderful re-assurance -

A chosen friend of Jesus
