After listening to the news this past week, I suddenly realised what a negative effect this world can have on me. I was so disheartened. Everything is going up in price and the 'powers that be' just seem to be having yet another meeting. The G8 is on at present where they will discuss the rising prices of food and fuel and debate about the starving millions - all this whilest sat in the comfort of a warm building eating delectable food (I presume!??)
We are advised to try not to waste food - at approximately £8 per week, per household it is quite an eye-opener. Having visited shanty towns where people get their food from rubbish dumps and water from the iceman, I do try very hard not to waste food. The main item I do try so hard not to waste is water. Water is so essential and people have to walk miles and hours just for a couple of buckets and yet here in our country, you can walk the streets in the summer and see water pouring out of hose-pipes and not a person in sight. It makes me so mad to see such a waste - but I know I'm not perfect and sometimes have to remind myself to turn off the tap when brushing my teeth.
In John 6 v 12 tells of where Jesus said to His disciples to "Gather up the fragments so that nothing is wasted". It is so important to the Lord that we waste nothing - food, water and time. I find it quite easy to waste time. I can waste time on my computer - looking at everyone's blog. There are so many interesting people in blog land!! I can waste time watching tv - although I am very choosy what I do look at and to be honest there isn't much I will watch, but I still flick around the remaining 'watchable' channels with the remote control and then exclaim.... "look at the time.....!!!!!"
So my tasks for this week is to look more closely at the food I buy and cook - to look at how I can cut back without cutting out the nutrients and without wasting any. And to also examine how I use my time.
I want to one day stand in front of my Lord and hear Him say "Well done....... And although there are so many other things to consider in life, I want to start this week by focusing on what actually keeps us alive in order that we can live to spread the Word of the Lord - the Word of Life.
